Correct! Water is vital to all animals at all times of the year. Providing accessible water in the winter is especially important as natural sources may be frozen over. Without water, the animals are in dire straits. It does require some work to keep wildlife in fresh, unfrozen water, but you can do so by changing it often or use an immersion heater in a suitable container. Here, we have a pond which doesn't freeze over (at least never entirely) as we keep the water in motion by the use of a pump. In this way, we can provide a constant supply of water almost effortlessly. We are rewarded with lots of visitors. |
