It is estimated that the bluebird population decreased by a staggering 90% between the 1920's to 1970's. This decline in population was caused mostly by the loss of their natural habtat, tree cavities.
Fortunately, the bluebirds adapted to manmade nesting cavities (bluebird nesting boxes) but there needs to be a lot of them if we are to restore their numbers to what they once were.
